The Cannabis Specialization Unit (CSU) is a critical arm of the Cannabis Licensing Authority, dedicated to ensuring the responsible cultivation of cannabis in accordance with regulatory standards. The CSU plays a vital role in advising and implementing programs that promote best practices in cannabis cultivation, while also safeguarding public health and safety.
Collaboration and Support
The CSU works closely with cultivators to ensure they have the best possible start-up conditions. The unit achieves this by providing expert guidance, education, and support, the CSU enables licensed cultivators to operate in compliance with regulatory requirements, while also promoting responsible and sustainable cannabis cultivation practices.

Prior to issuing a cultivation license, the Cannabis Specialization Unit conducts a comprehensive presentation at the conditionality approval stage. This presentation covers essential topics, such as:
- Regulations specific to the CSU regarding site visits and sample collection
- Cannabis classification and differentiation between hemp and ganja
- Cannabis growth stages, morphology, and sex identification
- Good agricultural practices, biotic and abiotic stress factors, and pest identification
- Ideal growth conditions for cannabis
After a cultivation license is issued, the CSU conducts regular activities to ensure compliance and provide guidance, including:
- Ganja or hemp start-up activities
- Nursery assessment and plant count
- Pre-harvest assessment
- Post-harvest and bud quality assessment
